On Wednsday 4th of October, Alan Devine came to our school to talk to us about public speaking. He asked us what we thought public speaking was. He then gave a brief speach on what is involved in public speaking. after , we did brief exercises to improve our skills. He gave each of us a joke to read to the class. We had to sit in the hotseat, stand up, walk powerfully, speak clearly and tell our joke. He told us what way we should stand and to always smile. Another exercise we did was we had to stand up infront of everyone at stare at each person for 5 seconds. this improved our eye contact with the audience. We then had to do that while following hand gestures by a machine. And do it again while answering questions from Alan. We also learned a rhyme Old King Cole. I dont really know what that had to with anything but anyways. We also have to write and prepare our own speaches to present to Alan on Friday the 13th. They must last at least one minute. My speach is on Hurling. I would recomment Alans workshop to other schools as hes a sound bloke and i have found his workshop affective.
